The Beginning

First Methodist Church of Burleson was officially founded in 1888 by small groups who worshipped together. The early church purchased its first lot on the corner of Ellison & Dobson. Soon after, a one-room building was constructed.

Over the next few decades, rooms were added to expand the church campus, along with a fellowship hall in the 1950s. By the early 1960s, FUMC Burleson owned the entire block.

A Time Of Growth

In December 1961, a new sanctuary was completed on the corner of Renfro & Dobson. Soon after, FUMC Burleson was given the Achievement Award from the Central Texas Conference in recognition of its rapid growth.

In 1971, fire ravaged much of the church campus. Thankfully, the sanctuary and several rooms in the education wing remained intact. Later in the same year, reconstruction was completed, and by the early 1980s, church membership had increased to 1100.

New Opportunities

In 1990, the church campus was re-dedicated after all outstanding debt was paid, and a new building campaign began. In Summer 1995, a 20-acre lot on McAlister Rd was purchased, with the bell tower signaling the beginning of construction in 1998. By 2002, the educational wing and fellowship hall/sanctuary were completed, with the old church campus at Renfro & Dobson sold to Hill College and Texas Wesleyan University.

In Spring 2006, a unification service for Kingswood United Methodist Church of Burleson and FUMC Burleson was held. In 2014, construction of a new Youth Building was completed just behind the main building.
