Living Christ-Centered, Building Relationships, Serving Burleson

The church’s end goal and purpose is, “to go and make disciples of Jesus Christ for the transformation of the world.” Crafted from The Great Commission, Matthew 28:19-20, and universally recognized by the United Methodist Church, this is why we exist. We are in the disciple-making business, if you will. We accomplish this through loving relationships, bold and contemporary proclamation of the Bible, and activity in the Burleson community and beyond.

At First United Methodist Church of Burleson, we accomplish this by, “inviting all people to live Christ-centered lives, building authentic relationships, and serving our Burleson community.” This is our unique vision to accomplish our mission of making disciples!

To live a Christ-centered life is to commit oneself to the values and character of Jesus, the historical and divinely created Son of God. We are called to be “little Christs” while living on this planet, living the lives, engaging the people, and loving our enemies and neighbors in the same manner as Jesus did. It simply means putting Christ at the center of all we think and do.

Building authentic relationships is more than just having casual friendships. It means creating relationships built on trust, respect, and real and meaningful conversations. It means holding each other accountable while giving space for diverse perspectives and interpretations of both Scriptures and the world around us. It means being able to sit at the table and have a meal and a conversation with those who aren't like us.

In order to serve our Burleson community, we have to get out of the church. Since we truly are the church, the Body of Christ, it is an opportunity to take the church to the community, showing our neighbors that what we believe is what we do. It doesn’t mean fixing people; it means walking side-by-side with people in their struggles and their joys. It looks like asking about the needs of our community and then partnering with others to meet those needs. It looks like taking the church to the streets.

This is who we are. This is our purpose. This is why we exist and this is how we accomplish our mission and our vision. We invite you to partner with us as we continue our journey of being good and faithful servants of Jesus Christ, together.
